Kinsale Community School suffered a narrow defeat in the semi-final of Irish Schools Senior Championship today when Royal Belfast Academical Institute won on the 19th hole in the final match.
The Championships are taking place at the Farnham Estate in Co Cavan and the conditions and course were set up for a great day of golf. Kinsale’s Cathal Butler lost the first match to Peter Kerr (Royal Portrush) but Kinsale levelled when Gary Ward won 5 and three. The Cork school went ahead with John Murphy’s 7 and win over Malone’s Ben Connolly and RBAI levelled the match when James Bohan lost on the 17th green. The final game was set to decide the outcome and Shane O’Connell gave Kinsale the advantage when he went one up on the 17th green. Unfortunately he lost the 18th and RBAI won the 19th to advance to the final. RBAI went on to capture the title when they beat St Andrew’s from Leinster.
