East Cork Ladies had three great wins in Limerick last weekend and in doing so they won three Munster pennants and booked their places in the All Ireland Finals. The Junior Foursomes team were first out on Friday afternoon and they had a good win over Ross with Mary B Walsh & Breda McCarthy and Caroline O’Connor and Mary Morrison winning their matches, while Sel O’Leary & Eileen Dorgan’s match was called in. Muskerry win Barton Shield
Muskerry captured the Munster Barton Shield title on Saturday when they put together two great wins in Shannon Golf Club. On Saturday morning they had a narrow one hole win over Ballybunion. Dave O’Donovan and Niall Gorey won their match by one hole and Daniel Hallissey and John Waldron halved. In the final they faced Dungarvan who had a big win over Limerick in their semi-final. O’Donovan and Gorey came out on top again, winning by two holes. Hallissey and Waldron kept pace with Dungarvan’s Peter Mullaney and Alan Thomas to seal the win for Muskerry. Continue reading
Gillis Celebrates 50 years in Cork GC
Cork Golf Club celebrated over the weekend, but this time it was in the clubhouse as they honoured their head greenkeeper Anthony Gillis as he celebrated 50 years working at the famous Little Island course. The club celebrated 125 years in 2015 has a rich history. Although the club’s first home was in near Glanmire, the current location has served the club for over 110 years. The current configuration was designed by the revered Dr Alister McKenzie in 1924, around the same time as he worked on Muskerry, Galway and the Old Course at Lahinch. Continue reading
Sugrue Wins Cork Pro-Am
Killarney’s Danny Sugrue was one of three golfers tied for the lead at the Etihad Airways Cork GC Pro-Am held on Monday. Sugrue stated in a blaze, posting birdies the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th holes to lie four under through six holes. Despite posting bogeys at 9 and 10, he went on to birdie 11 and 12 to remain at four under. Bogeys on 15 and 18 saw him finish on -2 and a share of the winner’s purse. Sugrue was joined by Brendan McGovern and Neil O’Brien on a two under par score of 70. Continue reading

R&A Level 2 Rules School Announced
R&A, GUI and ILGU announce Level 2 Rules School to be held in October 2014
The Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI), the Irish Ladies’ Golf Union (ILGU) and The R&A are delighted to announce that for the first time, a joint GUI/ILGU/R&A Level 2 Rules School will be run in Ireland on Friday 10th, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th October 2014.
