Muskerry win Barton Shield

Muskerry captured the Munster Barton Shield title on Saturday when they put together two great wins in Shannon Golf Club.  On Saturday morning they had a narrow one hole win over Ballybunion.  Dave O’Donovan and Niall Gorey won their match by one hole and Daniel Hallissey and John Waldron halved.  In the final they faced Dungarvan who had a big win over Limerick in their semi-final.  O’Donovan and Gorey came out on top again, winning by two holes.  Hallissey and Waldron kept pace with Dungarvan’s Peter Mullaney and Alan Thomas to seal the win for Muskerry.  Unfortunately for Muskerry there was only one win in Shannon as their Irish Junior Cup side lost out to Castletroy in the semi-final, Castletroy went on to win the final.

Castlemartyr were in action on Sunday in the Irish Senior Cup and there was a large crowd of supporters present to watch the team compete at Munster level for the first time.  Unfortunately for the new club, the dream ended on Sunday morning as Limerick got the better of them in an exciting match.  Kenny McGarry won the top match to put a point on the board for Castlymartyr, but Mark Shanahan and Kieran McCarthy lost out to give the advantage to Limerick.  In the last match, Davey Barry had a healthy two hole lead but John O’Brien was one down in the fourth match.  In the end the fourth match decided it as Limerick’s Darragh Fitzgerald won the 17th to record a 2&1 win over O’Brien.  The final was won by Tramore as they beat Limerick 3/2.
