Autumn has arrived, and the number of golfers on the fairways is falling as the wetter weather and the soft ground take hold. One golf venue that has seen no fall off in numbers is Flyte Golf – Cork’s largest simulator centre. The facility in Marina Commercial Park launched earlier this year and now they are launching their first winter league.
The league is a seven week competition that well see teams of four compete on some of the top courses to see who can come out on top. The league takes place over seven weeks, with some top-class courses included Old Head, Royal County Down and the Old Course. Entry is €80 for a team of four and there’s a special reduced weekly rate on Wednesday nights.
Interest is already strong and places are limited, and co-founder Ben Quigley is delighted with the interest. “The winter league in essence is about bringing people together, building a community around golf and giving people something to look forward to during the week” explained Ben.
“We wanted to create something that would keep people engaged with golf over the winter while adding a bit of friendly competition and a social element to the experience. The league is a great way to do that, and we’re looking forward to seeing how it develops over the seven weeks.”
“The interest in the Winter League has been particularly encouraging. Spaces are limited and we’re delighted with the level of interest so far.”
“If you’re looking to keep the golf going over the winter, enjoy some friendly competition and have a few Wednesday nights to look forward to, this is a great opportunity to get a team together and get involved” added Quigley. “With seven world-famous courses, weekly prizes, a season-long Order of Merit and pizza on Wednesday nights, there’s plenty to play for.”
And Ben is really happy about the way the business is moving. “Things have been going really well at FLYTE, and we’ve seen a particularly strong spike in numbers over the last six weeks. It’s been great to see the momentum building and the number of people coming through the doors increasing. We’re really hoping to carry that momentum into what we expect to be a strong winter.”
“The reaction from people has been overwhelmingly positive. One of the most rewarding things is seeing golfers realise that they can continue playing, practising and enjoying the game right through the winter without having to worry about the weather or the shorter evenings. People are really taking to the experience, and it’s great to see them coming in, enjoying themselves and making it part of their regular routine.”
“We always believed there was a real opportunity for indoor golf in Cork, not just as a way to practice, but as a social experience where friends, colleagues and golfers of all abilities can get together. Seeing people embrace that has been brilliant, and it gives us real confidence in what we’re building.”
“We’re still building and developing the business, but the response we’ve had so far has been fantastic. If the last six weeks are anything to go by, we’re very optimistic about the winter ahead. We want FLYTE to become a place people return to regularly, whether that’s to improve their game, compete with friends or simply enjoy a night of golf in a relaxed setting.”
