David Higgins made it a double-double today, he won his second consecutive Munster PGA event, and his second consecutive Waterville Pro-Am.  Higgins has jumped to the top of the Premium Golf Brands Order of Merit in the weather shortened Munster PGA Winter Series.

While the sun was shining in Waterville from early morning, a stiff breeze swept through the course to provide a testing challenge on the famous links course.  Forward tees gave the pro’s a sporting chance but a few tricky pins and the testing wind meant that nobody could break par.  David was one of five Higgins’ playing in the professional competition and he shot a 73 to win by one shot.  Also a winner in 2015, he had to share the title and the pot with David Whyte and Dan Sugrue on that occasion.  Dan Sugrue put up a good defence of his 2015 title, he was just one shot back, the popular Irish Region player has just taken up a new position in Dooks it was his first outing representing his new club.   Monkstown’s Cian McNamara also finished on 74 for a share of second and Damien Mooney was fourth with a 75.  Liam Higgins and Ronan Collins tied for fifth with 76.  This is the third staging of the pro-am and the support of Bill Rushby, YOB Golf, Waterville Links, Vision ID and Donagh McCarthy meant that the event attracted a bumper field of professionals including Damien McGrane, Brendan Mooney, Colm Moriarty and John Dignam.  This was the second last event in the Premium Golf Brands Munster PGA Winter Series.  The final event is the Morgan O’Donovan Perpetual Trophy, that takes place in Monsktown next month.
