Three Cork clubs will be chasing glory this weekend in Tramore as the last of the AIG Cups and Shields finals are down for decision.  Barton Shield holders Kinsale put on a strong performance at home in the qualifiers to come through the tough South Munster section.  Although they’re without John Murphy this weekend, Kinsale have a strong panel and with the experience of last year and the guidance of Ger Cullinane, they’ll be ready to take on Limerick.  Cathal Butler and Gary Ward have been playing well recently, both golfers were central to the win in Thurles last year and they will certainly be hoping a repeat of that performance.

No joy for Lee Valley or Douglas in Junior Foursomes finals

Irish Junior Foursomes Munster Finals 2019There was no joy for either Douglas or Lee Valley in Clonmel yesterday at the Munster Finals of the Irish Junior Foursomes.  Hope were high for a second Cork win in Clonmel, after Muskerry won the Fred Daly Trophy the day before.  Clonmel was a lot wetter and windier than it was on Monday, adding to the challenge of the tight tree lined course.

Lee Valley were out first and they were up against Faithlegg.  Mel Deasy paired up with Seamus Lordan while Keelan McCarthy partnered with Sean Deasy.  The Cork side battled hard but in the end they lost out to a strong team from Faithlegg.  Douglas too suffered at the hands of Kilrush.  Mark Hill & Sean Reddy Continue reading →

Muskerry win Fred Daly Trophy 2019

Fred Daly Trophy Munster Finals 2019Muskerry claimed another Munster Pennant on Monday, they won the Munster Final of the Fred Daly Trophy in Clonmel.  This was their second win in three years, having reached the final in 2017, 2018 and 2019.  This year marks the third of a three year cycle with the current players, and four of the team who were beaten in last years final returned this year to win in style.  Twelve months ago Eoghan O’Shaughnessy was the player who lost out on the third playoff hole at the final in Nenagh.  This year he was first to finish, wrapping up his match on the 13th green with a 6&5 win.  That put the first point on the board for Muskerry and Stephen Riordan added a second soon after with a Continue reading →
