Strong Performance from Howard in Seapoint

David Howard put another good top level performance in the bank last week with a top ten finish in the Flogas Irish Amateur at Seapoint.  The Fota Island golfer has been in good form this year and his -10 score for four rounds at the Co Louth links included rounds of 70, 68, 72 and a final round 68.

Cleary takes 2nd place in Connacht Seniors

Tom ClearyCork’s Tom Cleary heralded the start to his season when he took second place at the Connacht Seniors today.  The former Munster and Irish Seniors winner shot a par par 73 today in Claremorris to jump up the leaderboard and take the runner-up spot.  Cleary had three birdies on the back nine to get back to level par for the day.  He finished one shot behind winner Nigel Duke (Killiney) who retained the title he won last year.  Cleary was the only golfer to match par over the two days as the golfers struggled in testing weather conditions.

Pat Lyons (Cork) and Donie O’Donovan (Bandon) both finished in a tie for 11th place.  Both golfers put in a challenge on the front nine today but they faded on the back nine as they dropped a number of shots.  Michael Quirke (Doneraile) was in Continue reading

Bornemann 3rd in European Senior’s Championship

Karl Bornemann (Douglas Golf Club) finished in third place in the European Senior Men’s Championship in Spain.  The Douglas member was in fourth place going into the final round, but a one under par 71 saw him jump one place to finish in third place.  The Douglas member shot an opening round 73 and he was going well in the second round until he had four consecutive bogies.  He still signed for a 75 to hold 4th place going into the final round.  Today Bornemann bogied the second hole but birdied the fifth and ninth to get into the red.  He went on par the back nine and claim third place in his first time playing in the event?  Bornemann has been working on his game over the winter, and he’s also been working on his fitness with Peter O’Keeffe.
