The annual Golfers Guide awards were held last week and there were two winners from Cork.  Monkstown’s Hillary Madden won the Manager of the Year for Munster while Cork Golf Club won the award for best parkland course.  It’s cork’s fourth time to win the award in the past seven years.  The annual awards took place at Portmarnock Golf Links Hotel and formed part of the launch of the Golfers Guide to Ireland 2018.

The full colour guide is now in it’s 27th year and will be available free of charge in all GUI affiliated clubs.  The guide is a comprehensive listing of Ireland’s leading links and parkland courses and also provides details of specialist golf accommodation.

Stryker win Fota Island Inter-Company Challenge

 

Golf_Fota Island Inter Company Challenge_Stryker_Dec 2015Fota Island rounded off another busy golfing year recently when they hosted the final of the Inter-Company Challenge.  This is the second year that the novel event has been held and entries were up for the qualifying rounds.  The format was based on eight colleagues playing in a singles format with the top five scores counting towards the team total.  After a number of busy qualifying dates, Cork Airport PJ Hegarty, Stryker and Vistakon all made it to the series final.  Stryker came out on top of the four finalists with a grand total of 162 points, and they won a society outing in Fota Island including dinner for 20 Continue reading

Cork GC wins Golfers Guide Award

GOLF_Cork GC_Golfer Guide Awards_Jan 2015Cork Golf Club scooped the Munster Parkland Course of the Year award at the Golfers Guide to Ireland awards last week.  The publishers of the Golfers Guide to Ireland, announced the results of its annual golf business awards, which cove red parkland and links clubs, golf resorts and hotels specialising in golf travel and tourism.  It was Cork’s third time to win the award in the past four years and a testament to the work that has taken place to further develop and improve the course.  The renowned Alister McKenzie course in Little Island remains close to the original design of almost 100 years, although the club has continually upgraded and modernised the layout.  Continue reading
