Aaron Olden wins Muskerry Junior Scratch Trophy

18 year old Aaron Olden is the winner of the 2024 Ryans SuperValu Junior Scratch Matchplay.  The Fota Island member won six consecutive matches in Muskerry from Friday to Sunday to become the 55th winner of the famous tournament which dates back to 1970.  The Carrigtwohill native came through the qualifier and was hopeful that some good golf would follow.

Muskerry Junior Scratch Trophy returns for 2024

The Muskerry Junior Scratch Trophy returns next month with the two day qualifier taking place in mid March.  The early Easter date this year means that the qualifier will take place 15th and 16th of March and the timesheet is now open.  The event usually marks the start of the competitive season in Cork and over 300 golfers are expected to play over the two days.  32 golfers will qualify from each day, and they will then go forward to the match play stage in Muskerry which will be held over Easter at the end of March.

McSweeney Claims 3rd Win in Muskerry

John McSweeney beat all in front of him in Muskerry last weekend, and in doing so he won the Muskerry Junior Scratch Trophy.  The win was John’s third, an amazing achievement in Cork’s toughest competition.  The Muskerry member first won the competition twenty years ago in 2003, and he added a second win two years ago in 2021.  A 2&1 win over fellow Muskerry member Jack Kelleher on Sunday afternoon gave John his third win in the only six round matchplay event in the junior matchplay range.
