Home Winners at East Cork Scratch Cups

It was another busy weekend in East Cork when the popular golf club held their annual scratch cup weekend.  In excess of 350 golfers competed in the three competitions and East Cork members had a clean sweep as the winner all came from the home club.  Stephen Burkley won the Junior Scratch Cup with a 70.  Three other golfers finished on 70, Pat Lomasney, Ian Maher and Brian Whelehan.  The nett prize was won by Ollie Myers and the competition was sponsored by the Maple Bar.  The Intermediate Scratch Cup was sponsored by Linehan’s Bar and it was won by Tony Duggan who beat Denis Walsh on the countback.  Liam Hickey was third and the nett prize was won by Richard Stevens. Mahers Sports sponsored the Minor Scratch Cup and it was won by Sean Piggott with an 81.  Joe Buckley was second also with 81 and George O’Sullivan was third with 83.

Action in Cork this weekend will focus on Blarney and Monkstown where the qualifiers for the Irish Junior Cup take place.  In other action, Tralee host the prestigious Kerry Scratch Cup on Saturday and Fermoy hold their Minor Scratch Cup on Saturday and Sunday.  Cobh will host their senior, inter and junior cups the following week, starting on Friday and running through to Sunday.
