Castlemartyr is generally a busy golf course, but over the August weekend that goes to a new level as the club hosts their annual scratch cup weekend. It’s now a regular event on the Cork golfing calendar, having started seven years ago. This year was no different, well apart from setting a new record of 428 entrants over the three days. And while there can only be one winner of each of the three events, there were well over a dozen prize winners from the weekend. The generous prize fund exceeded €2,000. Castlemartyr Scratch Cup Weekend
Castlemartyr Golf Club will hold its annual scratch cups weekend from Friday 29th July to Sunday the 31st. This has proven to be a very popular weekend in the past for golfers and the club are expecting large numbers again this year. Last year saw numbers exceeding 400 over the three days. The scratch cup weekend caters for Junior, Intermediate and Minor golfers and there will be a total of €2,500 worth of prizes up for grabs. Once again Castlemartyr Golf Club will be partnering with McCarthy Insurance Group who will be sponsoring this event. The McCarthy Insurance Group have sponsored this event for the past four years and are one of the main reasons why it has been such a success.

Twomey wins Season Opener in Fota
Muskerry’s Ronan Twomey won the first major competition of the year when he scooped the TopGolfer Senior Scratch Cup at Fota Island on Sunday. The full timesheet featured almost 120 gofers as they all took to the famous Irish Open Deerpark course. The course was in great condition although it was a bitterly cold morning. The scoring was going to be tough for the high class field. The championship tees were in play and the greens offered up some very tricky pins.
