Munster Senior Inter-provincial Captain Phil Cooney recently got together with over 20 golfers that are all hoping to make the Munster team that will play in Fota Island in July.  All told there are up to 30 golfers in with a shout for the eight places on the team.  As in previous years, Munster Golf are running an Order or Merit system and the top four golfers will be rewarded with an automatic place on the team.

In all there are 15 qualifying competitions although it’s highly unlikely that anyone will place in more than 10-12 events.  The Portuguese Amateur Open took place last week with both Geoff Lenehan and  Eanna Griffin missing the cut.  Several players will be targeting the West, and after that there’s a run of four events in Cork.
