Kids Golf Camps this Easter
A few clubs are running kids coaching camps this month as the golfing season finally gets underway. Monkstown, Frankfield, Fernhill and Fota Island are all holding camps to coincide with the extended school holidays.
Cian McNamara is running three day camp in Monkstown starting on the 22nd March. Along with Graeme Dunlea, the pair have split the young golfers into three groups – boys 6-9, boys 10-13 and girls 6-13. Details are available on the Monkstown Golf Club Pro Shop Facebook page.
Frankfield Golf Academy have all of their 2016 dates available and they also run their Easter camp from 22-24 March. Camps run from 10.30am to 1.30pm and further camps are scheduled for July and August. David Whyte and Michael Ryan are running the courses. Fota Island have a camp in the Academy, starting on Wednesday 23rd and running until Friday 25th, details are available on the Fota Island website.
Wayne O’Callaghan’s Golf Academy is running a camp in Fernhill Golf Club, it takes place on 28th-30th March, classes run from 10am to 1pm each day. Wayne is also hosting a Wee Wonders qualifier on 31st March where the winners will qualify for St Andrew’s in August. The age limit is 12 and full details are available from Wayne.
Higgins wins Munster PGA event in Castlemartyr

David Higgins (Waterville) was the only golfer to break 70 at the Munster PGA Winter Series event in Castlemartyr today. The Kerryman won his first event of the 15/16 series and is now in with a strong shout for the order or merit title with events in Waterville and Monkstown left on the schedule.

McNamara wins final event in Adare
Monkstown’s Cian McNamara shot an impressive 68 in Adare on Monday to win the Munster PGA winter series event. This was just the second event to take place in the series, no less than three scheduled events were cancelled due to the weather before Christmas. McNamara had a strong finish to the season in 2015 and he’s started 2016 in sparkling form. Although he dropped a shot early on thanks to a three putt on the 4th, he regained a stroke on the index one 5th hole. He went on to birdie the 8th, 10th, 15th and 16th to sign for a four under par 68. There were four Cork golfers in action in the Inter-Provincials which took place in Donegal’s Rossapenna. Gary O’Flaherty, John Hickey, Dave O’Donovan and Ian O’Rourke all played their part in a sprited defence of the title they won in 2014. Munster started well in the first two days with wins over Connacht and Ulster, but they lost out in a winner takes all match with Leinster.

Four Cork Golfers through in Irish PGA Championship
David Ryan shot a very impressive five under par 67 in Dundalk Golf Club yesterday to jump up to fourth place at the Irish PGA Championship.

The second round was completed this morning and four Cork golfers have made it through to the third round. Monkstown duo Cian McNamara and Graeme Dunlea both finished in the top 20 with two rounds left to play, but they are 14 shots off the lead set by Niall Kearney. The defending champion has an eight shot lead over the field and is in a very . Davey Barry (Douglas) also had a great second round, he need a good round after an opening 77, and he responded with a 70 in the weather delayed second round. Padraig Dooley was unlucky to miss the cut, a bogey on the 18th cost him a place for the weekend. The third round continues today.
Ryan leading Cork charge in Connemara Pro-Am
David Ryan (Cahir Park) is the leading Cork professional after round one of the Connemara Pro-Am today. Ryan was one of three Cork golfers to shoot under par, he recorded -2 for his round to lie in second place behind Neil O’Briain (Old Conna) on -5. Monkstown duo Cian McNamara and Graeme Dunlea were one shot behind on -1 and in a tie for 5th place. Fernhill’s Wayne O’Callaghan shot a level par round for a share of 12th place and he too is in with a shot going into tomorrow’s final round.

McNamara wins Oughterard Pro-Am
Cian McNamara was the joint winner of today’s Oughterard Pro-Am in Galway. The Monkstown Head Professional carded a one under par total which included four birdies and three birdies.
McNamara, starting his round at the first, dropped a shot at the second but hit back with back to back birdies at the fifth and sixth before dropping his second shot of the day at the par three ninth. Out in level par 35, the 28-year-old birdied the 11th and 15th on the back nine but a dropped shot at the 12th saw him home in one under 34. Donal Gleeson (Old Conna Golf Club) also posted – to tie McNamara for the top spot. Castlemartyr’s Alan Gleeson and Monkstown’s Graeme Dunlea were part of a nine way for 11th place. The Castlemartyr Assistant led his team to the amateur prize with a score of 94 points.
Oughterard Pro-Am Detailed Results
It’s McNamara’s second win on the Irish Region Tour this year and he’ll be hoping for another good round tomorrow as he’s in action in Connemara. McNamara is the holder having won in 2014 and must be fancied for the 36 hole event.
Monkstown’s Dunlea 3rd at Beaverstown Pro-Am
Newly relocated Graeme Dunlea shot a four under par 68 at the Beaverstown Pro-Am in Dublin yesterday. He finished in a tie for 3rd place behind joint winners Damien Mooney and Richard Kilpatrick. Dunlea had five birdies in his round with the only bogey coming on the 13th when he was 4 under. He recovered with a birdie two on the 17th to sign for a 68.

Top 10 Finish for Dooley & McNamara at PGA Southern Championship
Drive’s Padraig Dooley and Monkstown’s Cian McNamara both carded second round 70’s to finish in top ten at Powerscourt. Both players opened with two over par 72’s yesterday and they went around in four shots less today to climb up the leaderboard.
