David Higgins (Waterville) was the only golfer to break 70 at the Munster PGA Winter Series event in Castlemartyr today.  The Kerryman won his first event of the 15/16 series and is now in with a strong shout for the order or merit title with events in Waterville and Monkstown left on the schedule.

David recorded birdies on the 3rd and 4th holes on the front nine and the 11th and 12th holes on the back nine.  The only blemish on the card was a bogey on the 10th which was playing into a very difficult headwind.  Dave Ryan (Cahir Park) and Tim Rice were tied for second place, both recorded two under par 70’s.  Cian McNamara (Monkstown) and Paul O’Neill (Shannon)were tied in fourth place with level par 72’s.

David Ryan maintains his place at the top of the Premium Golf Brands Order of Merit, although both Cian McNamara and David Higgins are in pursuit.  The Winter Series moves to Waterville for the William Rushby Pro-Am which takes place in two weeks time.  After that the Morgan O’Donovan Perpetual Trophy takes place in Monkstown in early April.
