Both Sean Desmond and John Murphy have been called up to the Irish Boys teams that will play in France and Wales later this month. Desmond has been selected on the team that will travel to Cardigan GC for the annual challenge match against Wales. Desmond from Monkstown will see action in both singles series and has a good chance of featuring in the foursomes matches also. There will be three foursomes matches on the opening day against Wales followed by eight singles matches in the afternoon. There will be eight more singles matches on the second day against Wales at Cardigan. Desmond had a very strong 2015, he had some notable singles performances and played a key role for his club Monkstown in two Munster finals in the AIG Senior Cup and the Junior Foursomes. He was named in the 2016 Boys Development Panel in November. The matches in Wales take place on 30-31st March.
Kinsale’s John Murphy was named in the main Irish Boys panel in November and he too had an impressive 2015. He put aside the disappointment of being on the losing side in the Munster Fred Daly final and went on to capture the Kerry Boys
title in Ballybunion. Murphy has only two weeks to wait for his trip to France. Ireland will play foursomes (four matches) and singles (eight matches) each day against France at Saint Donat, which is located near Cannes on the south coast.
