O’Sullivan Celebrates 10 Years in Cobh

Cobh’s Club Professional David O’Sullivan PGA.

This summer marked an important anniversary for PGA Professional David O’Sullivan, he celebrated 10 years as the Club Professional in Cobh Golf Club.  The Ballincollig native has been in the PGA ranks for over 20 years and has made Cobh his home since 2010.  While golf itself has gone through a strange decade, and especially a strange 2020, David was delighted to celebrate a decade at the Marino Point club.  “Ten years on and the old saying is true, time flies when you’re having fun.  From my early days, it was very clear that the members were welcoming and proud of their golf club and that is still very much the vibe at Marino Point.  Cobh Golf Club is on a journey of progression and since I started in 2010 this has been our shared journey.  It became ‘home’ and a decade on, I still very much feel that sense of belonging.”

Although you mightn’t think it, David is now in his third decade as a golf pro.  He trained in Bandon under Paddy O’Boyle and Continue reading

Cobh Golf Club is looking forward to a busy 2018.  Last year the club completed works on their new clubhouse and the completion of the club house and carpark marked the end of the beginning in some respects.  Having moved to their new Championship course in Marino Point in 2009, the club committees and its large membership set about building a lasting legacy for the club and the local area.  While the Hawtree designed course needed very little, the club invested time, energy and money in the surrounding facilities and now have the complete package.  The clubhouse, Pro Shop and practice area compliment the signature course which looks out over Cork Harbour.  The club is still open for new members and joiner can benefit from a special offer of €650 for the remainder of the year, while existing members of Cobh can benefit from the €80 per month direct debit option that makes the sub payment easier.  Cobh celebrated their drive in earlier this month, President Teresa Delius, Captain Pat Feen, Lady Captain Maria Hughes and Junior Captain Peter Dennis all took part to mark the ceremonial start to the new year, and while conditions for golf mightn’t be great just yet, the lower harbour club will have a busy year ahead.

The rain caused the postponement of the Munster PGA pro-am in Castlemartyr and this was the second event in succession that fell to the weather.  The Munster PGA Captain is David O’Sullivan and although he is disappointed with the cancellation, he had little option but to put back the event.  “The weather went against us during December and even though we had great entries for our Killarney and Castlemartyr events we decided to restage these events in the New Year” said O’Sullivan who is the Club Professional in Cobh Golf Club.  He added:  “We started the series with a Professional plus one amateur invite.  This format was something we wanted to try and after early feedback it was a huge success with our opening event held at Fota Island Resort.”  The opening event in November was won by David Ryan with a very impressive 63 on Fota’s Deerpark course.  Ryan also won the pro-am where he partnered his Dad Ellis.  The Munster PGA winter series has Continue reading
