Deasy in the mix in Ballina, Irish Boys Under 14

AIG Junior Cup South Munster Area Final, Bandon Golf Club, Wednesday 12th July 2017Mel Deasy (Bantry Bay) is comfortably inside the top ten after the first round of the Irish Boys Under 14 Championship in Ballina.  Deasy finished with a birdie three on the 18th to sign for a three over par 74.  Deasy has been playing some fine golf this year and has been a key member of the Bantry Bay AIG Junior Cup team.

Zak Collins (Douglas) is two shots behind Deasy in 13th place,  Collins had a disappointing end to his round but he’s in touch of the the top tem.  Leader Joshua Hill (Galgorn Castle) shot an amazing five under par 66 to hold the lead by two shots.  Hill had two eagles to record the impressive score on the opening day.   Round two gets underway tomorrow.

Blarney set for Boy’s Interpro’s

Blarney Golf ResortThe Boy’s Interprovincial Championships get underway today in Blarney with the U18 and U14 competitions kicking off the three day festival of golf.  Mallow trio Edward Walsh, Adam Boland and Greg Barrett lead a strong Cork line up in the Under 18 championship while Bantry’s Mel Deasy and Douglas’ Zak Collins are in action in the Under 14 competition.

Feerick, Collins and Deasy named on Munster U14 team, Lyons misses out in Irish Seniors Close

Ronan Feerick (Mallow), Zak Collins (Douglas) and Mel Deasy (Bantry Bay) were all named on the Munster Under 14 interprovincial team today, in advance of the interpro’s which take place on Tullamore in two weeks time.

In Tralee today Cork’s Pat Lyons missed out on a win at the Irish Seniors Close.  Lyons signed for a 77 in the final round and finished in third place behind Castletroy’s Eamonn Haugh.  Lyons had led the competition after 18 holes and after 36 holes.  Castlemartyr’s John O’Brien secured his top ten position with a 76 to finish in 6th place, and Bandon’s Donal O’Donovan was also in the top ten.  Tom Cleary finished in 17th place and also finished in second place in the over 60 category, while Muskerry’s Hugh O’Leary and Douglas’ Karl Bornemann were in the top 20.  Cork’s Peter Cowley won the over 70 category.
