Padraig Dooley and David O’Sullivan topped the leaderboard in Fota today but they shared top spot with Ted Higgins and Ted Higgins Jnr in the Motocaddy sponsored fourball. This was third event in Premium Golf Brands Winter Series, and the only fourball on the schedule. The winners returned a three under par 68, with three pairs tied on 69. Sugrue Wins on Home Course
Danny Sugrue made it two wins from two in the Munster PGA Winter Series, sponsored by Premium Golf Brands. Killarney was the venue for the second event and the home course pro went around in a very impressive five under par (67). He had a three shot winning margin over Monkstown’s Cian McNamara who was the only other player to break par. Charleville’s Jamie O’Sullivan was third with 72, and Wayne O’Callaghan and John McHenry were next with 76. David Foley shot a 76 and the top ten was rounded off with Don McFarlane, Kevin Morris, Billy O’Boyle and Davey Barry shooting 77.
The next event takes place in Fota Island in Monday 1st December. The fourball competition is sponsored by Motocaddy.

Fota Island Ladies recently presented a cheque for €3,400 to Marymount Hospice. The large donation was the proceeds from their annual charity open day which took place a few weeks ago. Mahon win Harbour Shield
The presentation of the Harbour Shield took place in Mahon Golf Course recently and members from the clubs who took part over the summer returned to play in the final competition of the year. Mahon won the final a few weeks ago in a thrilling match against East Cork in Monkstown. The Mahon team was comprised of Sean Foley, Eoghan O’Shea, James Daly, Stephen Jermyn, Aidan Power, Jack Bolster, Simon Lougheed, Liam Foley, Cathal Browne and Cormac Beausang. VM Ware Win Fota Company Challenge
The final of Fota’s first inter-company challenge took place last week with Ballincollig’s VM Ware becoming the first winner. The competition ran over two months, with teams of eight playing in singles format. The best five scores from each team counted with the top four teams qualifying for the final. The winning team was comprised of Wade Lynch, Donagh O’Mahony, Cillian Hurley, Kieran Hallihan, Aidan Lennon, Paul O’Connell, Trevor Harty and Denis O’Neill. The winning team received a golf outing in Fota Island for 20 people including dinner. As well as that they become the first name on a newly commissioned trophy. Continue reading
McHenry & Sugrue win Winter Series Opener
Munster’s PGA Professionals got their winter series underway in Adare this week as the first round of the Premium Golf Brands Series took place on Monday. The event saw over 30 golfers compete in what has become a very popular and competitive series which runs from November through to March. Adare Golf Club was in great condition as usual, however poor weather limited the competition to 15 holes. Callaway Golf were sponsors of the event and the top prize was shared between John McHenry and Danny Sugrue. Continue reading
Williams’ win Adult/Junior Event in Fernhill
The Irish Junior Masters Golf Tour held their final two events of the year last weekend Fernhill in Carrigaline was the venue for the adult/junior competition and over 60 golfers took part. The format was scotch foursomes and there was a tie for first place. Barry and Shane Williams from Douglas took the top spot along with Fernhill’s Brendan O’Callaghan and Wayne Whitley O’Callaghan. John and Jack Murphy (Fernhill) were third and fourth place went to Kinsale’s John and Laura Cousins. Continue reading

Mahon win Harbour Shield
Mahon Golf Club won the Harbour Shield last week after a hard fought win over East Cork. Monkstown was the venue for the final, with only two teams remaining from the summer long junior golf competition that saw ten clubs compete over three months. Monkstown was in great condition on Sunday and although it was breezy it stayed dry for the afternoon. This is Mahon’s second time to win the competition, having won the inaugural in 2009. The competition has grown from the initial five clubs taking part, and there are now three inter-club junior golf competitions available to Cork clubs. Continue reading
Connolly wins in East Cork
East Cork held their annual Senior Scratch Cup on Saturday and the winner was David Connolly from the home club. The popular winner went around in level par 69 to win the title by a single stroke. The winner started poorly and turned on three over, but birdies on 10, 11, 16 and 17 put him back in the hunt. An all-important par putt on the last was enough to give Connolly a one shot lead and the title. David is also the course record holder in East Cork having shot a seven under par 62 back in 2007. Kinsale’s Cathal Butler was second with a 70 and Cork’s Sean McSweeney also shot 70 for third place. Doneraile’s John Hickey was fourth with a 72. Continue reading
