Castlemartyr announced themselves as contenders for the Barton Shield last weekend when they qualified for the area final on Sunday next. Castlemartyr were the only team to play in all four rounds, and the beat Cobh in the preliminary round. They beat hosts Douglas with a comprehensive nine hole winning margin on Saturday afternoon to set up a match with Kinsale on Sunday morning. Continue reading

The newly formed Confederation of Golf in Ireland (CGI) were out in force last week at the Irish Open, giving over 800 free lessons in their customised driving range at the Irish Open. The CGI were also in Cork earlier in the week to host a business planning seminar for golf clubs. The event was jointly hosted by the CGI and Mardyke Arena UCC and it took place in Lee Valley Golf Club. Continue reading

Fota beat Mahon in tight Fred Daly Match

The final second round match in the Fred Daly took place on Tuesday with Fota Island and Mahon playing in Cobh. Fota were missing Jack Howard who was competing in the Irish Boys Open in Thurles, but other than that they fielded a strong side.
