Whyte Wins in Waterville – Munster PGA

Frankfield’s David Whyte made a return to the winners circle on Monday as he shared the top spot in the William Rushby Waterville Pro-Am. Whyte shot a leading 73 and was matched by Waterville’s own David Higgins and Killarney’s Daniel Sugrue. The event was sponsored by Bill Rushby and as part of the pot, a Volvo V40 was on offer for anyone who aced the par three 4th hole. Continue reading
Ryan wins in Youghal – Munster PGA

Cahir Park’s David Ryan won his second event in the PGB Munster Winter Series as he won the Captain’s Prize in Youghal. Ryan shot a winning one under par 70. He held off a trio from Kerry as Danny Sugrue (Killarney), David Higgins (Waterville) and Liam Higgins (Waterville) all finished with 71. Christian Porter (Halpenny Golf) was fifth with a 72 and Cian McNamara (Monkstown) was next best with a 73. Although it was an impressive performance from Ryan, the story of the day was the second placed finish by Liam Higgins. The veteran from Waterville shot a 71, bettering his age by one at the Taylormade sponsored event. In a nice touch Liam told his assembled peers that Youghal was the first club he joined in 1963. Quinlivan Wins Munster PGA Event
There was local success in the Munster PGA winter series as Mike Quinlivan won in the Cobra Singles in Dromoland Castle last week. The Rathbane based PGA Professional shot a three under par 69 to win the event by a single shot. Fernhill’s Wayne O’Callaghan was second with 70 and Monkstown’s Cian McNamara was third with a 71. Ryan and Ruddy Win in Cork
The Munster PGA held their first event of 2015 this week when the Wilson Golf Singles took place in Cork GC on Monday. Despite heavy rain on Sunday night, the sun was out on Monday morning for the competition. 16 holes were in play and the scoring was keen even though the course was playing long. Despite the weather there was a full timesheet with the winter series again proving popular with PGA professionals from all over the province. Dooley and O’Sullivan Combine for Winning 68
Padraig Dooley and David O’Sullivan topped the leaderboard in Fota today but they shared top spot with Ted Higgins and Ted Higgins Jnr in the Motocaddy sponsored fourball. This was third event in Premium Golf Brands Winter Series, and the only fourball on the schedule. The winners returned a three under par 68, with three pairs tied on 69. The scoring was keen with ten pairs separated by only four shots. Continue reading
Sugrue Wins on Home Course
Danny Sugrue made it two wins from two in the Munster PGA Winter Series, sponsored by Premium Golf Brands. Killarney was the venue for the second event and the home course pro went around in a very impressive five under par (67). He had a three shot winning margin over Monkstown’s Cian McNamara who was the only other player to break par. Charleville’s Jamie O’Sullivan was third with 72, and Wayne O’Callaghan and John McHenry were next with 76. David Foley shot a 76 and the top ten was rounded off with Don McFarlane, Kevin Morris, Billy O’Boyle and Davey Barry shooting 77.
The next event takes place in Fota Island in Monday 1st December. The fourball competition is sponsored by Motocaddy.
McHenry & Sugrue win Winter Series Opener
Munster’s PGA Professionals got their winter series underway in Adare this week as the first round of the Premium Golf Brands Series took place on Monday. The event saw over 30 golfers compete in what has become a very popular and competitive series which runs from November through to March. Adare Golf Club was in great condition as usual, however poor weather limited the competition to 15 holes. Callaway Golf were sponsors of the event and the top prize was shared between John McHenry and Danny Sugrue. Continue reading
