Enable Ireland are asking Golfers to support their fundraising plans and invite Golfers to donate €5, log their name and then, on a nominated hole, take a shot and mark where their drive lands. Each Club is invited to send 4 representatives to Fota Island on the 7th of May (Male Nearest the Pin; Female Nearest the Pin; Male Longest Drive and Female Longest Drive). We are trying to raise funds for our new Children’s Centre in Curraheen on the grounds of the old ESB Club and would really appreciate the support of Cork Golfers.
Each of the four winners on the 7th May will win a trophy, an overnight stay in Fota Island, a session on Trackman 4 by O’Keeffe Golf Performance and one month’s platinum membership of Dennehy’s Health & Fitness.

Monkstown’s Sean Desmond made it through to the matchplay stage on his debut in the West of Ireland Championship today. Desmond shot a second successive 73 at Co Sligo and finished inside the top twenty. Sean had a colourful card today, five bogies and a double were offset by five birdies on the testing links track. Tomorrow he has a 7.27am start where he’ll face Robert Brazill from Naas.

Qualifiers from the first round strokeplay:
A marathon 48 matches were played in Muskerry today as 64 of the best junior handicap golfers played on the first day of the Ford Junior Scratch Trophy. Honorary Starter Tim O’Brien had the weather on his side as he started 32 matches this morning, and a further 16 matches this afternoon in the second round. Last year the competition endured a weather delay as the course was covered in hailstones. Light rain was about the worst that golfers had to endure and the Cloghroe course was in great condition. Joe Lane, Joe O’Keeffe and Hugo Gallagher were also busy men as the results came in thick and fast and the morning winners went back out for the afternoon matches.
