Kinsale’s Cathal Butler was last night confirmed as a member of the Irish Boys team for the Home Internationals. It will be Butler’s second time representing Ireland at this level having competed last year in Western Gailes. Surprisingly Butler is the only Munster player to be selected with no play on the squad for John Murphy who might well have expected a call up. While Butler’s experience and his recent form were in his favour, his Fred Daly team mate Murphy had posted some very impressive results over the past three months.
The team features 5 players from Leinster and four from Ulster with one each from Connacht and Munster. “We have a
very experienced team. All 11 players have represented Ireland at underage level and all of them have been capped at under-16,” said team captain Cathal McConn. “They are all good match players and they have all had plenty of match play experience at inter-club, interprovincial and international level,” he added.
