Kinsale’s John Murphy stormed into the lead at the Leinster Boys Open in Balcarrick. Murphy has consistently shown good form this season and was a surprise omission from the Irish Boys team announced yesterday, but he bounced back from the disappointment to shoot a two under par 71.
Murphy was actually one over par after a bogey on the 13th hole. He had a strong finish with a birdie on the par three 16th and a very impressive eagle on the short par five 17th. He parred the last to sign for a 71 an a share of the lead with four other golfers.
Muskerry’s Benedict Cronin is in 14th place after a 74, the same score posted by Kinsale’s Gary Ward. Cillian Moloney (Fota Island) and Eoin Aherne (Mallow) are both just inside the top 50, but Conor Roche and Mark Healy will have work to do tomorrow to recover from disappointing opening rounds.
