Sean Desmond in Top 10 at Irish Boys
Monkstown’s Sean Desmond shot a one under par 71 in the second round of the Irish Boys to climb into the top 10. Tuam Golf Club is the venue for the 72 hole competition and Desmond carded five birdies in his round today. He was three under through the 13th hole but he gave back two shots with bogeys on the 14th and 15th. A 36 hole total of 145 (+1) see’s the Monkstown golfer in a tie for 7th place. Continue reading

Geoff Lenehan shamed his playing partners today with an amazing display of golf that saw his leave his partners hanging their heads in disgust as he stormed ahead of them.
Lenehan, who for the first time in his career was part of the tallest threeball on the course, avoided the embarrassment of a triple bogey on the easiest par four on the course, he also avoided a double on the easy 16th.
As a result of the wonderful round, Lelehan was allowed to leave the threeball, and O’Keeffe and Cannon will have a box jumping contest on the 1st tee tomorrow to decide who goes through to the second mtchplay round. Meanwhile Lenehan was rewarded with soft draw against some hack from the north west.

Sunday started with high hopes for plenty of golfers, O’Donovan, O’Brien and Gorey were all in contention at the Irish Mid-Am in New Forrest. Cian McNamara and Wayne O’Callaghan were in the top 10 in the Shell Carne Pro-Am and Fernhill were due to take on Blarney in the first round of the Barton Shield at Muskerry. Continue reading

O’Donovan and Griffin selected on Munster Team

Dave O’Donovan (Muskerry) has been selected on the Munster Senior Inter-Provincial team, and his selection was warmly welcomed by many who feel it’s a well deserved reward for his good play in 2015. O’Donovan had a very strong start to the season and won the prestigious Lee Valley Senior Scratch Cup in April. Although he was limited to only a few order of merit events, Munster Captain Phil Cooney obviously liked what he saw when he watched O’Donovan in Lee Valley and later in Cork GC at the Munster Strokeplay. A happy Dave said: “I’m thrilled to bits obviously. Dues to a few family occasions I couldn’t play as much as I would have liked to in May. But I played well in Shannon and the Munster Strokeplay and the game it still good”. O’Donovan along with the team and management will aim to retain their title in Rossapena (Donegal) in early July.
