Super 68 from Davey Barry at Irish PGA Championship

Davey Barry jumped into contention at the Irish PGA Championship in Bunclody, a second round 68 saw him move 15 places on the leaderboard into a tie for third place. Barry went out in a level par 37 after two birdies and two bogies. A birdie on the 10th started his back nine nicely, and he went on the have three more to sign for a four under par 68. Added to his opening 74, he’s now on two under, five shots off the lead. And the change in form had a lot to do with a new putter according to the Douglas GC Professional. “I spent an hour on the putting green last night with a new putter, and it worked pretty well. I also hit 16 greens so that also helped” said a delighted Davey. “I played well yesterday but the putting was off. Today was much better though.” Barry’s 68 was one of only three scores in the 60’s.

Irish Junior Foursomes 2019 :: Munster Finals
No joy for Lee Valley or Douglas in Junior Foursomes finals
There was no joy for either Douglas or Lee Valley in Clonmel yesterday at the Munster Finals of the Irish Junior Foursomes. Hope were high for a second Cork win in Clonmel, after Muskerry won the Fred Daly Trophy the day before. Clonmel was a lot wetter and windier than it was on Monday, adding to the challenge of the tight tree lined course.
Lee Valley were out first and they were up against Faithlegg. Mel Deasy paired up with Seamus Lordan while Keelan McCarthy partnered with Sean Deasy. Prendergast wins Cork Intermediate Scratch Cup
He’s more commonly seen on the first tee, or possibly on hand when a ruling is needed. Most weekends he’s watching golf rather than playing it, but last weekend Dave Prendergast swapped his Munster colours for club colours and won the Cork Golf Club Intermediate Scratch Cup. Prendergast, who is the Honorary Match & Handicapping Secretary for Munster Golf, shot an impressive 67 to win the competition. His gross nine over (81) included a birdie on the third and a great run of six pars on the back nine. It was the back nine that won it for Dave, Cork’s Donal Mulvihill also finished on 67 while Mahon’s Eoghan O’Mahony took third place. Aidan Carroll won the best gross prize with 83.
Macroom recently held the presentation for their scratch cup and the winners were Tom Tupper (Junior Scratch Cup), Derek Murray (Intermediate Scratch Cup), and Dean O’ Riordan from Fermoy Golf Club (Senior Scratch Cup). Muskerry will hold their Junior Scratch Cup next Saturday and there are some limited times still available, details are available online or from the club.

Muskerry win Fred Daly Trophy 2019
Muskerry claimed another Munster Pennant on Monday, they won the Munster Final of the Fred Daly Trophy in Clonmel. This was their second win in three years, having reached the final in 2017, 2018 and 2019. This year marks the third of a three year cycle with the current players, and four of the team who were beaten in last years final returned this year to win in style. Twelve months ago Eoghan O’Shaughnessy was the player who lost out on the third playoff hole at the final in Nenagh. This year he was first to finish, wrapping up his match on the 13th green with a 6&5 win.
