Super 63 from Ryan to win Munster PGA Opener

Munster PGA Captain David O’Sullivan presenting the winners prize to David Ryan who shot a 63 at the opening PGB Munster PGA event. The comeptition was held at Fota Island Resort and was sponsoted by Titleist & Footjoy. Also included is Stephen Hayes, Munster PGA.

Cahir Park’s David Ryan shot a sensational eight under par 63 to win the first PGB Winter Series event at Fota Island Resort.  The event was in the new pro-am format and was sponsored by Titleist & Footjoy. Marian Riordan and Davey Barry were tied in second place on 69 and Tim Rice shot a 70 to take fourth place.  Killarney’s Dan Sugrue was fifth with a level par 71 while newcomer Conor Coyne was among those tied for 6th place in his first PGA event.

Unsurprisingly David Ryan also took the pro-am prize, he partnered with his Dad Ellis to score a winning 46 points.  Marian Riordan and Colm Riordan were second with 44 points.  Tommy Higgins won the amateur category with 41 points.  David O’Donovan and Colm Riordan were tied for second with 39 points.  The next PGB winter series event will take place in Killarney Golf Club on Monday 30th November and this will also be a Continue reading

Marymount Benefits from Fota Ladies

O’Driscoll wins Junior Scratch Cup in Fota Island

Michael O’Driscoll made it two wins for the family when he won the Junior Scratch Cup in Fota recently.  12 months ago Michael’s son Robert won the Junior Scratch Cup with a winning score of 74.  Another O’Driscoll name was added this year as Michael shot a winning 76 from the championship tees on the famous Deerpark Course.

VM Ware Win Fota Company Challenge

Golf_Fota Inter Company Challenge_VMWare_Oct 2014The final of Fota’s first inter-company challenge took place last week with Ballincollig’s VM Ware becoming the first winner.  The competition ran over two months, with teams of eight playing in singles format.  The best five scores from each team counted with the top four teams qualifying for the final.  The winning team was comprised of Wade Lynch, Donagh O’Mahony, Cillian Hurley, Kieran Hallihan, Aidan Lennon, Paul O’Connell, Trevor Harty and Denis O’Neill.  The winning team received a golf outing in Fota Island for 20 people including dinner.  As well as that they become the first name on a newly commissioned trophy.  Continue reading

CGN Irish Open June 2014_56Fota Island Resort have launched the first Inter-Company Autumn Challenge, and the winners will receive a golf society outing with dinner for 20 people.  The competition runs from now until Friday October 17th and the final will be held on Friday October 24th.

Almost 150 amateur golfers got a chance to tee it up with tour professionals yesterday as the Irish Open Pro-Am took place in Fota.  Play got underway at 7.50am and even at that stage the sun was out and temperatures were hitting 20 degrees.  The attendance at the pro-am was an estimated 7,000 spectators which ranks highly on the European Tour schedule.  The majority of places in the pro-am are reserved for the event sponsors but there were a few golfers that secured their place thanks to qualifying competitions. It’s all hands on deck this week in Fota, and all of the golf staff have new roles on the course supporting the event.  PGA professional Ian Prendergast normally runs lessons and camps from the Academy in Fota but this week the academy has turned into the busiest range in Europe and Ian’s in charge.  With a team of 14, Ian has to ensure that all 156 professionals are looked after whether it’s warming up before the round, or practising afterwards.
