Monkstown’s Sean Desmond shot a one under par 71 in the second round of the Irish Boys to climb into the top 10. Tuam Golf Club is the venue for the 72 hole competition and Desmond carded five birdies in his round today. He was three under through the 13th hole but he gave back two shots with bogeys on the 14th and 15th. A 36 hole total of 145 (+1) see’s the Monkstown golfer in a tie for 7th place.
Mark Healy leads a strong contingent from Kinsale, the Fred Daly Trophy player shot two 74’s in the opening two rounds to stay in the top 20 at the halfway point. Eric Rumley and Cathal Butler are both two shots back in a tie for 22nd place and John Murphy is in 36th place with 153 (+9). Barry Fitzpatrick (Casltle) leads the tournament on -3.
Cillian Moloney (Fota Island) and Darren Hourihan (Douglas) both have some work to do tomorrow. They are both in 66th place on 157 and currently two shots outside the projected cut mark. The top 50 players plus ties after 54 holes will go on to compete in Friday’s final round.
