Tommy O’Driscoll

Tommy O’Driscoll made his second successive cut on the Mediterranean Tour this week.  The Cork born Paris based professional put three good rounds together to finish in 14th place from the overall field of over 50 golfers.

The event was the second stage on the 2016 Mediterranean Tour, and Tommy’s second cheque on the tour.  The tour was cut from three to two events but there was an increased prize fund for both events.

Tommy has a break for a few weeks before he returns to action on the Alps Tour in Tunisia.  His brother Eamonn will be in action this week in the French Boys which takes place in Omaha Beach in northern France.

South East League Update: East Cork & West Waterford lead

The South East league is underway with 9 clubs taking part in the competition this year.  The competition uses a combination of Bruen and Purcell pairings and is an ideal warm-up for the Cups & Shields competitions later in the year.  West Waterford have topped their section after three rounds, with Youghal taking second place.  Only two rounds have taken place in Section B and East Cork are out in front on 16 points.  Mahon are second with 13 points and Mitchelstown are third on 10 points.  Cobh and Fermoy have played just one match each and will no doubt be hoping to catch the leaders as the competition continues.

Castlemartyr Links was covered in a welcome sunshine yesterday as the Ron Kirby designed links played host for the Munster finals of the Irish Schools Senior Championships.  Castlemartyr was a late replacement venue as the original venue was deemed unplayable due to the recent adverse weather.  The inland links provided a fair challenge for the 20 golfers, mostly single figure handicappers who relished the tight fairways and fast greens.
