Three Cork clubs will be chasing glory this weekend in Tramore as the last of the AIG Cups and Shields finals are down for decision. Barton Shield holders Kinsale put on a strong performance at home in the qualifiers to come through the tough South Munster section. Although they’re without John Murphy this weekend, Kinsale have a strong panel and with the experience of last year and the guidance of Ger Cullinane, they’ll be ready to take on Limerick. Cathal Butler and Gary Ward have been playing well recently, both golfers were central to the win in Thurles last year and they will certainly be hoping a repeat of that performance.

East Cork booked their place in the Munster finals of the AIG Junior Cup with a dramatic win in the area final. Muskerry was the venue for the exciting match last week when it hosted the area final of the Junior Cup. Bandon were hoping add a second team to the schedule for the Munster finals, that was after their AIG Senior Cup team qualified for the finals in Tramore the previous week. East Cork were their opponents, the Midleton club came through from the Castlemartyr qualifier but only by the skin of their teeth after winning when the last match went to the 19th hole.

Tralee Golf Club will host the AIG Cups & Shields finals this weekend with three Munster pennants on offer. It’s eight years since Tralee have hosted the finals and Arnold Palmer designed links will provide a spectacular setting for the three finals. Two competitions are down for decision on Saturday with Cork and Mallow in action. Cork will be hoping to retain their Munster title in the AIG Barton Shield, but they’ll have to get past hosts Tralee in the semi-final. Waterford Castle face Castletroy in the other semi-final. Mallow unseated holders Monkstown and beat a good Cork side in the Senior Cup and they’ll be hoping to maximise their first appearance at the Munster finals in several years. Ballybunion carry Kerry hopes in the AIG Senior Cup, the West Munster winners will face Dungarvan who were the winners in the East Munster section.
