East Cork beak Cobh hearts

East Cork broke Cobh hearts again last weekend as they progressed from the Pierce Purcell qualifiers at Mahon.  On Saturday they accounted for hosts Mahon and on Sunday morning they beat Monkstown.  On the other side of the draw Cobh beat Castlemartyr, Fermoy and Mallow to advance to the venue final.  It was the same match up as the Bruen qualifier two weeks ago but Cobh started brightly and held the advantage through most of the afternoon. Cleary wins Munster Seniors

Cork’s Tom Cleary captured his second Munster Seniors Amateur Open in Thurles today, although it took a seven hole play-off to separate the top three.  Although he won the title in 2009, Cleary suffered a play-off defeat last year as Arthur Pierce won when the championship was held in Cleary’s home course of Cork GC.  Continue reading
