Gazi wins 2nd Douglas Scratch Cup

Mark Gazi won the Douglas Senior Scratch Cup last weekend, posting rounds of 68 and 71 on the black course in Douglas.  The Tralee golfer was two under par after the first round, edging previous winner Peter O’Keeffe by one shot.  Jack Murphy was next best on 71 with James  Walsh, David Howard and John Dolan on 72.

Both Gazi and O’Keeffe added rounds of 71 in the afternoon, meaning Gazi claimed his second Douglas title.  He won it back in 2024 when he bridged a gap of over 30 years to the last winner from Kerry.  O’Keeffe picked up second place and the PJ O’Hea Cup for best Douglas player, with Jack Murphy one shot back on +1 after a level par second round.

The Douglas Scratch Cup is in Kerry hands for the first time in nearly thirty years after Mark Gazi won in style on Sunday.  The Tralee teenager shot a second round 65 to win by one shot.

Gazi was on the fringes after an opening 72, he was four shots behind the leader Dean O’Riordan and back in 6th place.  A second round 65 (five under par) not only got him back on track, it put him into a winning position.  After chipping in for birdies on the 18th, he rolled in a six foot birdie putt on his final hole (6th) and that was the difference when Continue reading

Douglas Senior Scratch Cup set for Saturday

2022 winner Morgan Cain

The Douglas Senior Scratch Cup takes place on Saturday and it marks one of the last opportunities for a major title in Cork this season.  The 36 hole competition is set to attract a strong field for is usually a very competitive event.  Holder Morgan Cain is not around to defend his title.  The Cork member is the US now having moved to Tusculum University in Tennessee last month to start his first year with Pioneers golf programme.
