Fota Island’s Open Week starts tomorrow with different events on each day. On Monday the 24th of July, golfers can enjoy Over 55’s Fourball at €100 per team. Ladies Three Ball Better Ball will take place on Tuesday at €35 per person and Open Singles at €40 per golfer takes place on Wednesday. On Thursday there’s an Open Fourball at €40 per golfer and Friday will once again host Open Singles at €40 per head, ending Fota Island Resort’s Open Week with specials that everyone can enjoy.

Fota Island has proven itself to be the perfect tournament venue and next week it will host the GUI Senior Interprovincials. The famous Deerpark course has a long-standing association with top level tournament golf, hosting European Tour, Seniors Tour, ILGU PGA and GUI events. It’s a three time host for the Irish Open, in 2001 and 2002 it hosted the Murphy’s Irish Open and attracted record crowds as the Cork headquartered Brewery wrapped up their nine-year sponsorship of the competition. More recently Fota attracted 100,000 spectators during the 2014 Irish Open. As a championship venue, the Deerpark course in Fota has been lengthened but very little else has happened to the Jeff Howes designed course. Tightly cut fairways, strategic bunkering, and receptive true greens are all hallmarks of the Fota golf experience. Michael O’Driscoll made it two wins for the family when he won the Junior Scratch Cup in Fota recently. 12 months ago Michael’s son Robert won the Junior Scratch Cup with a winning score of 74. Another O’Driscoll name was added this year as Michael shot a winning 76 from the championship tees on the famous Deerpark Course.
