Lee Valley advance to Bruen Munster Finals

CGN_Jimmy Bruen_21st May 2015-42Lee Valley were the first Cork club to book their place in the AIG Cups & Shields Munster finals.  Their Jimmy Bruen team had come through from Blarney where they won three matches including a venue final against the hosts.  It was Waterrock’s first time to host a GUI area final and the course was in excellent condition for the match.  Many would consider the back nine in Waterrock to provide the tougher challenge but the front nine proved decisive as both sides varied between birdie and bogey golf to win, halve and even lose holes. Mahon win Harbour Shield

Golf_Harbour Shield_Mahon_Oct2014Mahon Golf Club won the Harbour Shield last week after a hard fought win over East Cork.  Monkstown was the venue for the final, with only two teams remaining from the summer long junior golf competition that saw ten clubs compete over three months.  Monkstown was in great condition on Sunday and although it was breezy it stayed dry for the afternoon.  This is Mahon’s second time to win the competition, having won the inaugural in 2009.  The competition has grown from the initial five clubs taking part, and there are now three inter-club junior golf competitions available to Cork clubs.  Continue reading

East Cork beak Cobh hearts

East Cork broke Cobh hearts again last weekend as they progressed from the Pierce Purcell qualifiers at Mahon.  On Saturday they accounted for hosts Mahon and on Sunday morning they beat Monkstown.  On the other side of the draw Cobh beat Castlemartyr, Fermoy and Mallow to advance to the venue final.  It was the same match up as the Bruen qualifier two weeks ago but Cobh started brightly and held the advantage through most of the afternoon.
