Sugrue romps home in Munster Youths

James Sugrue Barton 2013

By Niall O’Shea

Mallow’s James Sugrue blew apart the field in the final round of Munster Youths in Dungarvan on Friday as he finally claimed the title he narrowly missed out on in 2012.  Sugrue had a one shot lead going into the final round and he added a four under par 68 to have a winning margin of seven shots.  Sugrue was one of only two players to break par on the final day, all of his main competitors finished over par to give the Mallow man the generous winning margin

Sugrue was runner up on 2012 when he lost out to Ardee’s Eugene Smith.  Last year he won the Under 18 prize as the main title eluded him.  Sugure had a slow but promising start to the season but he’s heading for a handicap of +2 as the season proper gets going.

Sugrue was yesterday named in the Irish Squad to play in the Fairhaven Trophy in Lytham this weekend.
