Muskerry’s Jack Egan won the Munster Boys Under 14 Championship today at East Cork Golf Club. Egan shot the low round of the day and his one over par 70 beat the runner up by three shots. The young Muskerry man had a very steady front nine, with a bogey on the third hole the only blemish. He birdied the tricky par three 16th to get back to level par but gave the shot back on the following hole. He parred the 18th to sign for a 70, four shots better that his handicap of five. Second place went to Scott Millar who travelled from Clandeboye and the Castle Dargan pair of Sean Carroll and Patrick Callaghan too third and fourth places.
The Munster Boys Under 13 Close Championship also took place with the top finishers from recent qualifiers in Adare Manor and Waterrock taking part. First prize went to Luke Danagher from Newcastlewest Golf Club. Zak Collins from Douglas took second place and Jake Lindy (Cahir Park) was third.
Although the rain came down for much of the day, the course was in great shape and it proved a worthy challenge for the 120 golfers who played. The competitions today mark the end of the junior golf championship season and Munster Junior Convenor Peter English thanked all the players and especially their parents for supporting this competition and all of the others throughout the season. He thanked Junior Adminstrator Margaret Sugrue who managed all of the championships and Gordon Adair and Jim Lynne who ran the competitions today. He also had a special word of thanks for the staff and Officers of East Cork Golf Club for providing the course, and all of the support they provided on the day.
