Turner Showing Good Form on Asian Tour

Niall Turner made a welcome return to competitive action when he finished in the top 15 on the Asian Tour last week.  Turner was in action in the rain affected Yeangder Tournament Players Championship in Chinese Taipei.  32 year old Turner shot 66 in the second round to lie in 4th place in his best round of the season to date.  Although he finished outside the top ten, he won over $6,000 in his third start on the tour this year.

Turner has now moved on to Macau for the Venetian Macao Open where he will set his sights on another good finish which will improve his chances of retaining his full tour card.  The Corkman will be joined by Ireland’s Niall Kearney who’s enjoying a great spell of form that saw his challenge in the ET’s British masters at Woburn last week.

Speaking after the impressive second round 66 Turner had the following to say: “I played really well. I drove it nicely and hit my irons quite well. I was one-over after three holes but played really well after that. I was happy that we didn’t have to go out and play in that weather yesterday. I had a relaxing day.  My back is good and I’ve been fully fit in the last three months. It is a great feeling after what I’ve been through.  To be honest I felt miserable in the first six months when I was injured. I’m delighted to be back to be playing well.  The most important shot was a par save I made on the eighth hole. I hit a terrible tee shot and hit an average bunker shot before making the par putt from 15 feet. I played really well from there. That kept my momentum going.

Because of the rain, the greens are softer and you can fly the ball and stop it on.  The ball was rolling really well.  Yesterday’s rain definitely helped us a bit today.  I had a tear near my lower back and a few hip issues. It was an awful first six months in the year so I’m glad to be back and in condition. I’m fully recovered now. This weather (cold) is perfect because I usually struggle with sweaty arms and palms!   Three rounds are kind of a sprint. A shootout really. I was thinking if I can get a low one today then it will set me up nicely for the last round. There will be a huge amount of guys in contention.”
