A top class field has entered for the Munster Strokeplay which takes place at the end of this month and the cut looks like falling again from the 2016 mark of 0.5. Entries for the showpiece Cork Golf Club event closed last night and there were no less that seven late entries that should qualify, four of those playing from plus handicaps. Although all handicaps will need to be verified, it’s looking like the cut will fall at 0.3, with not all of those playing from this mark getting in on the first cut.

There were only a few changes to the entry list for the Munster Strokeplay and the draw that was published on Friday last still stands. Holder Shaun Carter along with 2014 winner Barry Anderson lead the charge from Royal Dublin, along with a host of Leinster golfers. Gary O’Flaherty, John Hickey and Mark Ford lead the charge from the hosts while Peter O’Keeffe, Cathal Butler, Ian Spillane and James Sugrue will be hoping to build on early season form going into the Championship.

Shaun Carter from The Royal Dublin won the Munster Strokeplay with a four under par total 140 for the weather affected 36 hole Championship. Rosslare’s Paul Murphy and Castlemartyr’s Mark Shanahan both recorded second round 68’s to take second and third place respectively on two under par 142. Continue reading
