The Munster Under 15 Close was won yesterday by Muskerry’s Fionn Hickey. Hickey shot a three over par 75 to win, he was one under par at the turn thanks to a birdie on the 5th . He had a mixed back nine which included a double and triple bogey. Two birdies however meant the he finished on 75 and won by two. Cork’s Alex Dineen was second, Dineen had two birdies on the back nine which helped him to a 76. Kinsale’s Robert Walsh Jnr was third with a 77. Michael Troy (Dungarvan) won the Under 16 prize and Zak Collins (Douglas) won the Under 14 prize. Hickey will be one of the Muskerry players in action in Fermoy tomorroe for the Munster finals of the Fred Daly Trophy.

Faithlegg’s Rory Milne was the winner of the Munster Under 17 Close, the four handicapper shot a two under par 70 to claim the title. Milne was one under at the turn following two birdies and a bogey. Six pars followed on the back nine until he bogied the 16th. Milne finished strongly however with a birdies on the 17th and 18th, and he won the title by three strokes. Killarney’s Luke Walsh took second place, Walsh eagled the 18th to get back to level par, finishing one shot ahead of Muskerry’s Jack Egan who finished on +1. Kinsale was the venue for the event and the course was in great condition for the event. A number of junior members acted as ball spotters to ensure that everyone got around the course quickly. A two tee start was in operation and worked very well. Kevin Murray, Junior Convenor Munster Golf congratulated both winners and thanked all of the players for competing. He thanked the Officers, members and staff of Kinsale Golf Club for providing a wonderful setting for the competition and thanked them for their support in running the event. Murray also thanked referees Sean O’Leary, Jim Nolan, John Carroll and Munster Golf Junior Administrator Margaret Sugrue for another well-run Munster Championship.
