Dan Sugrue struck again, winning the Munster PGA Winter Series singles in Cork Golf Club with a fine 67 in fine conditions.  This is Dan’s fourth win of the season, and it means he has extended his clear lead in the Winter Series Order of Merit.  After a steady start where he parred the opening five holes, the man from Dooks birdied the 6^th and 8^th, although he gave a shot back on the 9^th to turn on -1.  An eagle on the 11^th got him going again and two more birdies on the 15^th and 17^th saw him sign for a five under par round of 67.  David Ryan, who generally features on a course he knows very well, opened brightly and he was three under through six holes.  While he dropped shots on the 9^th and the 10^th, he had another three birdies on the back nine which saw him finish on 68 (-4).  Gary Howie was the only other player to break par, he took third place with a 70 while Jack Howard and Ted Higgins were tied for fourth with a level par 72.

Dan Sugrue combined with John Dooley and John Sugrue for nine birdies and an eagle to win the team prize.  David Ryan, Liam Burns and David Hayes were second with Ted Higgins, Colin O’Gorman and Padraig Dooley taking third place.

After a spell of mixed weather, Cork was in great condition today, with Cork’s Paul Kiely reporting that the mild weekends have brought seen a large number of golfers compete in the recent weekend members competitions.  With bright spring sunshine and good course conditions, the large field enjoyed the start to the second half of their Winter Series programme.  Today’s event was sponsored by Accra, and the Munster PGA will have several more events in the coming weeks.  Douglas (March 14^th), The Friends of Ian St John Day in Faithlegg (March 25^th) and The Morgan O’Donovan Perpetual Trophy in Monkstown (April 15^th)  are confirmed, and there are two more events set to be added to the schedule in the near future.
