Blarney and Mahon hosted several first round matches on Sunday and the line up for Saturday morning’s eight matches is now complete. Lee Valley and Muskerry won in Blarney and the matches on Saturday morning are as follows:

There were three matches down for decision on Sunday afternoon in Mahon and Raffeen Creek, Douglas and Cobh all came through. The four matches in Mahon on Saturday are:

Blarney Golf Club is celebrating it’s 10 anniversary this year and their Open Week takes place next week. Events run from Tuesday to Friday with competition fees starting at €10 for visitors. The open week competitions culminate with a 10th Anniversary dinner dance which takes place on Saturday 23rd July.
The John Daly designed course – his only project in Europe to date – has survived and thrived during a very challenging decade for golf in Cork and Munster. Since its opening a decade ago, Blarney Golf Club has grown and consolidated its position on the Irish golfing map to become a club with over 500 members, competing strongly in local and national GUI competitions. There’s a fantastic welcoming atmosphere pervading the club from junior to senior members, PGA Professional Alan O’Meara as well as management and staff, and part of this is evident in just how popular the Thursday open singles competitions have become in a relatively short space of time. Easter always see’s the staging of the Ford Muskerry Junior Scratch Trophy, a unique event for golfers with a handicap of 5-11. Two qualifying days sees the top 64 golfers go through to a matchplay phase player over Easter. 19 year old Adam McSweeney from Douglas added his name to the Ford Junior Scratch Trophy after three tough days. Although he was three down after just eight holes in the final, the Junior Cup and Senior Cup golfer fought back to level the match. Kinsale booked their place in the Fred Daly Trophy area-final on Saturday last with a comprehensive win over Blarney. Kinsale have been fancied from the start of the competition, although they were close to being knocked out by Douglas in the last round.
