Kinsale booked their place in the Fred Daly Trophy area-final on Saturday last with a comprehensive win over Blarney. Kinsale have been fancied from the start of the competition, although they were close to being knocked out by Douglas in the last round. The semi-final was played in Castlemartyr and Kinsale set to the task quickly with some great golf from John Murphy, Mark Healy and Cathal Butler.
Murphy was seven under for his 13 holes when he wrapped up a 6&5 win. Mark Healy also won 6&5 and he was six under. Butler was for under and Gary Ward was one under as they wrapped up the two winning points on the day. Murphy and Healy are both playing in Greystones in the Leinster Youths Championship. Both carded opening rounds of 76 to lie eight shots off the lead.
Kinsale will welcome a return trip to Castlemartyr on Friday afternoon as they take on Fota in the area-final. Fota earned a tough win over Mahon a few weeks ago and followed that with a win over Cork. They too played the semi-final in Castlemartyr so both sides should be familiar with the Ron Kirby designed inland links as they both look forward to winning and moving on the provincial semi-final.
