Mallow’s Ciaran McKenna is the best placed Cork golfer at the halfway-stage of the PGA Assistants Championship in Nuremore. After carding an opening +4 round of 75, he added a level par 71 in the afternoon to take a share of 7th place. McKenna had five birdies and five bogies in the afternoon.
Charleville’s Frank Holly also shot 75 in the first round and was heading for a great afternoon score – only to record a 7 on the par 4 18th hole. The triple bogey gave Holly a second round total of 74 and a share of tenth place. Former Mahon team-mates Davey Barry (Douglas) and Alan Gleeson (Castlemartyr) are both inside the top twenty after 36 holes. Both carded opening rounds of 75, and the both added 76’s in the afternoon. Despite the fact that all four golfers comfortably made the cut (+17), hopes of a win tomorrow will be measured as leader Joe Dillon (Headfort Golf Club) is seven shots ahead of McKenna on -3.
