Kinsale’s John Murphy is only three shots off the lead going into the final day of the Leinster Youths Amateur Championship. Murphy shot a one under par 71 on day two, and his round included an eagle 2 at the short par four 6th hole. Monkstown’s Sean Desmond also recorded a second round 71, his four birdies were offset by three bogies and he is in 9th place.
Cork’s Paul Tobin is just inside the top 20, he’s on +7 at the halfway stage seven shots off the lead. Overnight leader Peter McKeever shot a second round 80 to see him fall 7th place. Kinsale’s Mark Healy was very unlucky not to qualify, he lost a place in the final day on the countback. He second round 79 proved to be the difference as only seven of the thirteen golfers tied on 155 made it through. With 36 holes scheduled for tomorrow Murphy and Desmond still have a great chance to make up the deficit.
