Kinsale’s John Murphy went low on the final day of the Irish Boys Open in Tuam, and doing so rocketed up the leaderboard to 4th place.  Murphy had a poor finish on Thursday, after starting well he dropped five shots on the back nine.  There were no such mistakes on Friday, he was the only golfer to beak 70 as he recorded five birdies and two bogies for a closing 69.  Murphy won recently won the Under 18 Medal at the Leinster Youths has shown great form at inter-club level and will no doubt be looking forward to the Munster Boys Open Championship in Mallow in two weeks.

Monkstown’s Sean Desmond finished in 15th place after a final round 75.  Desmond had a seven on the par five 3rd hole but bounced back with a birdie on the 5th.  He added a few bogies around the turn but came back in one under par for a three over par total for the day.  Kinsale’s Cathal Butler was the only other player from Cork inside the top twenty, a closing 76 meant that he jumped two places to 18.  Eric Rumley and Mark Healy both finished in the top 35.
